Kupastuntas.co, Lampung English - The Gender Inequality Index (IKG) of Lampung Province in 2022 was 0.456, down 0.002 points compared to 2021 which was 0.458.

The Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for Lampung Province, Atas Parlindungan Lubis explained, gender inequality in Lampung Province for the past five years has consistently decreased.

"From 2018 to 2022, the Gender Inequality Index (IKG) decreased by 0.048 points, an average decrease of 0.01 points per year. For 2022 it was 0.456, down 0.002 points compared to 2021 which was 0.458. This indicates that gender inequality is narrowing or equality is getting better," he explained, Tuesday 1 August 2023.

He said that as many as nine regions in Lampung experienced a decrease in gender inequality including, West Coast, South Lampung, West Tulang Bawang, Tulang Bawang, East Lampung, Mesuji, North Lampung, Central Lampung, and Pringsewu.

"Pringsewu Regency has experienced the highest reduction in gender inequality, mainly due to improvements in the dimensions of empowerment," he said.

He said, the biggest decline in gender inequality occurred in 2020, which fell 0.02 points, which was mainly influenced by reduced inequality in the labor market.

"The female labor force participation rate increased from 50.95 percent in 2019 to 54.13 percent in 2020, while the male labor force participation rate decreased from 86.24 percent in 2019 to 85.41 percent in 2020, he said.

According to him, the three dimensions forming the IKG have consistently improved. The dimensions of reproductive health are improving, the risks for women in reproductive health are decreasing. Meanwhile, the dimensions of empowerment and the dimensions of the labor market are increasingly equal.

"Improvement in the reproductive health dimension is influenced by an improvement in the indicator for the proportion of women 15-49 years who at the time of their first live birth were aged less than 20 years, dropping from 27.5 percent in 2021 to 26.9 percent in 2022," he said.

Meanwhile he continued, the dimension of empowerment is formed by two indicators, namely the percentage of legislators and the percentage of women 25 years and over who have high school education and above.

"During the 2018-2022 period, the percentage of women members of the legislature tends to increase, although in 2021-2022 it has slightly decreased compared to 2020. This condition represents an increasingly equal role for women and men in decision-making," she said again.

Above convey, the calculation of the IKG adopts the calculation of the Gender Inequality Index (GII) from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with some adjustments.

Chairperson of the Lampung Province Parliamentary Women's Caucus, Aprilliati revealed, the representation of women in Lampung Province who are members of the 2019-2024 legislature is very important to consolidate existing aspirations.
