Three Districts in Central Lampung Were Hit By a Tornado, Hundreds of Houses Were Damaged

Kupastuntas.co, Central Lampung - Three sub-districts in Central Lampung, namely Kota Gajah, Punggur and Trimorejo sub-districts, were hit by a tornado, as a result hundreds of residents' houses were damaged. This disaster occurred on Saturday 27 May 2023 evening.

Kliwon, a resident of Sapto Mulyo Village, explained that the wind came at around 19.00 WIB, starting with regular rain, adding wind and thunder, then the wind suddenly became strong.

“My house was hit by a tile and also a cowshed fell on a tree. The stage hall next to the Sapto Mulyo Village office collapsed, because it was not strong enough to be hit by the wind, the building was made of mild steel," explained Kliwon. Saturday 28 May 2023.

Panji, another resident of Sapto Mulyo Village, said that due to the strong winds, many trees were downed. According to him, the damage to residents' houses is currently still being recorded, estimated at dozens of houses.

Not much different, in Nambah Rejo Village, residents' houses also suffered similar damage.

"We work together with other residents, fix the house, worry that it will rain again," said Salimin, another resident.

It was also seen that some residents were cutting down tall and old trees around their homes, anticipating the next strong wind.

The Head of Kota Gajah District, Prawito said, there were three hamlets in Kampung Nambahrejo that were affected by the tornado.

"After the incident, residents worked together to repair damaged houses and remove fallen trees blocking the road. In total there were 58 houses affected with scattered tile conditions and dozens of trees, from small to large trees, uprooted," he said.

Prawito said, of the 58 houses that were affected, 13 houses were badly damaged in Hamlet 5.

Severe damage from the wind resulted in roofs and buildings being destroyed. The losses suffered by the victims are estimated at IDR 10 million per house. While 45 other houses suffered minor damage.

"We (District) are trying to record the number of families affected and apply for assistance to the Central Lampung Regency Government," he said.

He said, in Kotagajah District there were several villages that were affected by the tornado.

"So far it is known that there are 3 villages in Kotagajah District, the most severe is in Kampung Nambahrejo," he said.

Apart from that, in Sritejo Kenjono Village, the field tribune collapsed, and also in Sapto Mulyo.

The head of Punggur sub-district, Sukistro, said that while there are two villages in Srisawahan and Badaransari, the number has not been confirmed because his party is still collecting data, only if the conditions are not too severe, only ordinary damage.

Head of Trimorejo District, Suparyono said, preliminary data shows that five villages were affected by the Whirlwind, however, the condition was moderate and light damage.

"Of the five villages, Untoro Village is only in the Kanopi Ambrol Islamic boarding school, in Purwodadi Village there are 65 houses, Pujo Kerto has 7 houses, Pujodadi Village has 45 houses and Purwodadi Village has 14, that's still temporary data that we got," he said.

"If the damage is in the moderate category, residents have also worked together to repair damaged residents' houses. On average, the asbestos roofs are lifted, the roof tiles fall, but it's not that bad," he concluded. (*)
