Kupastuntas.co, Lampung English - Mount Anak Krakatau erupted and spewed column of gray material as high as 3,000 meters above the peak, Thursday 11 May 2023 morning.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation at the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia released the report via the magma.esdm.go.id website created by one of the staff, Deny Mardiono.

"The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Thursday 11 May 2023, at 05:19 AM. The height of the ash column was observed to be around 3000 meters above the peak or 3157 meters above sea level," said Deny Mardiono's report.

Deny Mardiono continued, the ash column material looks gray in color and has a thick intensity towards the southwest.

"The eruption was recorded on a seismograph, with a maximum amplitude of 70 millimeters and a duration of 132 seconds," he continued.

Even though it erupted, it was reported that no sound was heard from GAK and the sea waves were calm.

"The eruption was accompanied by 1 earthquake with an amplitude of 70 millimeters, and an earthquake lasting 132 seconds," said Deny Mardiono.

Deny Mardiono detailed, the seismicity that occurred included 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 10 millimeters and a duration of 7 seconds.

Then, 2 hybrid earthquakes with an amplitude of 12-19 millimeters with a duration of 5-8 seconds. Followed by 1 volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 10 millimeters lasting 5 seconds.

Also, one continuous tremor earthquake with an amplitude of 0.5 to 5 millimeters, dominant 1 millimeter.

"There were 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 5 millimeters to 10 millimeters, and an earthquake lasting 21 to 30 seconds," explained Deny Mardiono.

Even though there was an eruption, GAK is still at level 3 or on alert status. "The public is advised not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau within a 5-kilometer radius of the active crater," said Deny Mardiono's report. (*)
