Kupastuntas.co, Lampung English - The Disaster Management Operations Control Center for the Lampung Province Regional Disaster Management Agency noted that two areas in Lampung Province were inundated by flooding due to heavy rains that flushed on Sunday 30 April 2023 at night until Monday 1 May 2023 in the morning.

The two areas are Lembasung Village, Blambangan Umpu District, Way Kanan Regency, and Hanakau Jaya Village, North Sungkai District, North Lampung Regency.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency for Lampung Province, Rudy Sjawal Sugiarto explained, the cause of flooding in the two areas was because river water overflowed and submerged residents' settlements.

"The floods in Way Kanan occurred due to high-intensity rain from Sunday evening to early Monday morning. As a result, the Kali Asun river in Lembasung Village overflowed, submerging residents' settlements and cutting off road access in the village," said Rudy.

Rudy said that the flooding in North Lampung was caused by the overflow of the Tulung Buyut River, which cut off road access from Negara Ratu to Pakuan Ratu and vice versa.

"There are no fatalities, while the amount of damage is still being collected," he said.

Rudy revealed that floods in Way Kanan and North Lampung due to river overflows usually don't last long and will gradually recede.

"God willing, this flood will not last long and will recede soon, because a typical flood in Lampung is an overflow of a river. Sadi hopes that it will recede in the near future. Currently the condition has gradually receded," he said.

Monitoring at the location, a number of residents' houses in Lembasung Village near the Way Kanan Regent's office were flooded. Then, the provincial road in Hanakau Jaya Village, North Sungkai District, North Lampung to Way Kanan Regency was cut off until Monday 1 May 2023 morning.

Sani, a resident of Hanakau Village, hopes that the Lampung Provincial Government will pay attention to the frequent roads being cut off due to the overflow of the Tulung Buyut River.

"This provincial road is always flooded because the road is parallel to the river," he said.

In Way Kanan, several flood points covered the road due to the overflow of the river after heavy rains. Many residents' houses were flooded up to knee-deep adults. (*)
