Abandoned Community Health Center Patients in West Lampung
Kupastuntas.co, West Lampung - A patient was abandoned while seeking treatment at the Kenali Health Center, Belalau District, West Lampung, Indonesia, because medical workers prioritized participating in gymnastics.
The unprofessional performance of the Kenali Health Center was posted on social media Twitter by the patient's family via the account @tanyarlfes, on Friday 10 February 2023. This post immediately received responses from a number of netizens.
In his upload, the @tanyarlfes account shared a post with the words "What's wrong with this puskesmas asking for referrals from 7 to 8 o'clock they were not served until my father who was sick spoke with difficulty and stuttered asking for help to be processed immediately but the answer was 'Be patient, okay? Sir, we do gymnastics first." Thus the contents of the post.
The post immediately went viral and received comments from a number of netizens. One of them, the account @stoviadmnic, wrote a comment in a scathing tone that read "Wow, your puskesmas is a real doctor, just because the government can do whatever you want if a patient dies because of a ridiculous reason, what do you do with gymnastics? Do you still deserve the title of doctor?" he wrote.
The names of the patients and their families who complained about the poor service at the Kenali Health Center are not yet known. The Twitter account that posted the post has been contacted but has not responded.
Until the news was published, the post had been retweeted by 2,955 people, and received 1,346 comments and 15,000 likes.
The head of the Kenali Health Center, Romaita, when contacted, confirmed the incident. However, he admitted that it was just a misunderstanding, and that his party had communicated with the patient's family and had provided responses regarding the matter.
"Yes, it happened last Friday, we have communicated with the patient's family and we have also provided a response because it was just a misunderstanding because the referral was online so it was still loading because it was not yet operating hours. Meanwhile, the patient left in a hurry, and the problem was resolved," said Romaita via WhatsApp, Saturday 11 February 2023.
Deputy Chairperson II of the West Lampung DPRD, Erwansyah, asked the local government, especially the Health Service, to be more strict in implementing discipline towards medical workers and employees at the puskesmas so that health services are not hampered.
"Employee discipline must be upheld. Health workers in their respective areas should prioritize public services rather than unnecessary matters," said Erwansyah, Sunday, February 12, 2023.
According to him, the government provides a large budget in the health sector in order to improve public health status. However, if medical staff are not disciplined, this goal will not be achieved.
"Don't let the public's trust in the performance of the Health Service weaken because of the low discipline of the officers. The Health Office has a large budget to provide the best service to the community," he concluded. (*)
