Kupastuntas.co, West Lampung - The Fisheries Service of West Lampung Regency, Indonesia, noted that the number of floating net cage (KJA) aquaculture fish affected by the 'Mentilehan' phenomenon in the waters of Danau Ranau, Kagungan Village, Lumbok Seminung District, has increased to 250 tonnes with an estimated loss of 6.250.000,000 rupiah.

Head of the West Lampung Fisheries Service for Indonesia Kamaludin said the data was obtained from a team that had been dispatched to directly review the current condition of the waters of Ranau Lake, which had experienced a natural phenomenon in the last few weeks which had caused fish cultured in local waters to suddenly die.

"Thank God, for now the condition of oxygen levels in the waters of Lake Ranau is starting to return to normal, now the oxygen level is above 3 from before, which was even below 1 milligram per liter and hopefully this phenomenon can end and conditions in Lake Ranau waters can return to normal," said Kamaludin in an interview, Monday (16/01/2023).

Kamaludin added that the condition of the waters of Danau Ranau which had begun to stabilize had occurred since last Saturday (14/01/2023), even based on his monitoring today no more fish had been found suddenly dead due to this phenomenon, so his party hoped that the number of dead fish would increase. no longer increases.

Kamaludin continued, based on data obtained from local waters, there were at least 150 floating net cage fish cultivators who were affected and depended on the waters of Lake Ranau and their capital was mostly funded by bank fees.

"Therefore, we from the Department will facilitate cultivators to be given a relief time for returns by the banks. We are just waiting for the time to be able to coordinate with the banks and the team is also still collecting data on cultivators who are directly affected," he said.

Kamaludin said that Lumbok Seminung is a well-known area as a center for tilapia in Lambar, tilapia production in Lumbok can reach 6,000 tons a year with sales to various regions such as South Sumatra, Jakarta and Surabaya, but not a few are marketed in Lampung Province only.

Meanwhile, said Kamaludin, dead fish carcasses are processed by local residents as fertilizer and feed for catfish and catfish, processing of tilapia carcasses as fertilizer and fish feed is considered more efficient and has benefits so it will not affect the local aquatic environment. (*)
