Five Witnesses Will Present at the University of Lampung's New Student Admissions Bribery Trial

Kupastuntas.co, Bandar Lampung - The Public Prosecutor will present five witnesses at the first evidentiary hearing for the agenda of examining witnesses against three defendants in the bribery corruption case for new students at the University of Lampung  independent pathway 2022 at the Bagir Manan Room, Tanjung karang, Tipikor District Court, Bandar Lampung on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

The three defendants include the Chancellor of the University of Lampung who is off Prof. Karomani, Deputy Chancellor I for Academic Affairs at the University of Lampung Heryandi and Chair of the University of Lampung Senate who is off Muhammad Basri.

Karomani's legal adviser, Ahmad Handoko, revealed that five witnesses would be presented. However, regarding the identity and background of the five witnesses, his party has not received confirmation. However, it is almost certain that the witnesses have a strong connection with the corruption case.

"Tomorrow the witnesses. Regarding the names of the Prosecutors have not been told, just confirmed that there are 5 witnesses who will be presented. Later, if there is further information, we will inform you," said Ahmad. Monday, January 16, 2023.

Then, the team of legal advisers confirmed that Karomani's client and the two other defendants were in good health so they were ready to go on trial the next day.

"Definitely ready, ready to attend the trial," he said.

Handoko also revealed that it is very likely that the examination of the five witnesses will be seated with the three defendants so that it is possible that the trial will be held in combination.

Remembering the previous week, the trial for reading the charges of the three defendants took place separately.

"It seems they were combined, because in last week's trial both the public prosecutor and the legal advisers for the defendants wanted the witness examinations to be combined because the witnesses in the two cases were the same," he said.

"But we don't know yet, because the panel of judges is also different. Currently the chairman of the panel is still considering the request, bearing in mind the principle of a fast and low-cost trial," he added.

To note, in the indictment, Karomani was charged by the public prosecutor with violating Article 12 C paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication Corruption Crime.

In addition, Karomani was also charged with the article on gratuity as stipulated in Article 12B paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Jo Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, the actions of the defendants Heryandi and Muhammad Basri were charged with Article 12 letter b in conjunction with Article 18 of RI Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by RI Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to RI Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts Corruption Jo Article 55 Paragraph 1 1st Criminal Code Jo Article 65 paragraph 1 Criminal Code.
