Lampung Province Has a Mangrove Ecosystem Covering an Area of 9,810 Hectares
Kupastuntas.co, Lampung English - The Lampung Provincial Forestry Service noted that based on the 2021 National Mangrove Map compiled by the Ministry of Environment and Needs, Lampung has a mangrove ecosystem covering an area of 9,810 hectares.
Head of the Lampung Provincial Forestry Service, Yanyan Ruchyansyah said, the mangrove ecosystem includes existing mangroves covering an area of 9,355 hectares, consisting of 1,525 hectares in forest areas and 7,830 hectares outside forest areas.
"The potential for mangrove habitat itself is 455 hectares, consisting of 244 hectares in the forest area and 211 hectares outside the forest area," said Yanyan when questioned, Friday 31 March 2023.
He explained, the spread of mangroves in Lampung is along the East Coast, South Coast and West Coast. Covering the regencies of Tulang Bawang, Mesuji, East Lampung, South Lampung, Pesawaran, Tanggamus, West Lampung and Bandar Lampung City.
"We continue to make efforts so that mangroves are maintained, including by providing guidance to coastal communities or mangrove farmer groups. Then the formation of Regional Mangrove Working Groups," he said.
Apart from that, the Forestry Service is implementing mangrove rehabilitation through a special Regional Expenditure Budget budget for outside forest areas and by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry with a State Revenue Expenditure Budget budget for inside and outside forest areas.
"In 2020, through the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget, 558 hectares of mangrove rehabilitation have been carried out with locations in 140 hectares of Tulang Bawang Regency, 33 hectares of Tanggamus, 145 hectares of Pesawaran, 120 hectares of East Lampung and 120 hectares of South Lampung," he explained.
Then in 2021 through the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget budget a mangrove rehabilitation area of 145 hectares has been carried out with locations in 120 hectares of Tulang Bawang and 25 hectares of South Lampung. Then in 2022 through the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget a rehabilitation area of 7 hectares will be carried out in East Lampung 3 hectares in Pesawaran 4 hectares.
"Then there is also an effort to make mangrove seedlings in Permanent Nurseries in South Lampung Regency and Tanggamus Regency with each producing between 15,000 and 20,000 stems per year," he said.
In addition, this year the Forestry Service has also attempted to propose the implementation of mangrove rehabilitation in Tulang Bawang covering an area of 95 hectares to the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency. (*)
